World War I Centenary

The 4th of August 2014 marked the 100th anniversary of the day Britain entered one of the costliest conflicts in history – the First World War – with fighting continuing until the 11th of November 1918, Armistice Day. To commemorate the anniversary the memorial has been professionally cleaned and the fence repainted via funds obtained from our local County Councillors.

Walter Mellors has conducted extensive research into the solders who gave their lives for their country and who’s names appear on the memorial. A small booklet was produced and distributed to all homes in the village.
